Life is good! Life is inspirational!

Mousetrap

There’s a mouse in the attic
Oh what shall we do?
It’s running around with
It’s pals up there too
It’s leaving its droppings
As black as the coal
And gnawing its way
Through bags to make holes
I swear that these vermin
Are out to get me
And before very long
They’ll be eating my tea

But stop!  I can hear them
They’re talking out loud
A mouse in conversation
In the midst of their crowd

“These humans”, it squeaks
“Say we’re encroaching their space
But they invaded ours
Without any grace
They built on our fields
Where we ran oh so free
And now they complain
They hate our company
I swear that these humans
Are out to get me
And before very long
They’ll have me for their tea”

There’s a mouse in the attic
Oh what shall we do?
It’s running around with
It’s pals up there too
It’s driving me crazy
I want it to go
The mouse in the attic
To go with the flow
To leave and uproot
His whole family
Or else he’ll become
The cat’s dinner and tea!

  1. This reminds me of a book i am reading to my 2nd grader — The One and Only Ivan, by Katherine Applegate. It’s narrated in first person — by a gorilla. 🙂

    • Sounds good – I haven’t heard of that one before but will look it out for my nephew. What age is a 2nd grader?

      • mine is 7. usually they’re 7 – 8. 🙂
Katherine Applegate was the author of the Animorphs series way back when, (depending on how old you are) but this is more literature-like than the animorphs series was

      • I missed that series but have just googled and it looks good. Will have to go for a muse round a good bookshop – my children are now 14, 16, 17 and 19 but my nephew is 7/8 so could be good 🙂

  2. A wonderful poem! Although it’s making me hungry….purrr
