Life is good! Life is inspirational!

What’s happened to the letter
The one we write to say
A thank you for a-visiting
Or dropping in today
Or passing on acknowledgement
And gratitude as well
Or very simple pleasantries
And wishes to excel

What’s happened to that written form
We used to pen by hand
On special writing paper with
A watermark to brand
And stamp of Queen and country
Sent off to those so dear
What’s happened to the written note?
Where did it disappear?

And what about those instruments
Those quills or fountain pen
The ink from bottled reservoir
Where did that go again
And not forgetting blotting pads
Creating works of art
Compiled in note or letter that
Was sent out from the heart

  1. Oooh, I love this–I used to have sealing wax and the beautiful stamps for it too; great letter writer I was, as a girl–novel length, fat envelopes!

    • Where have those days gone? Really good discussion yesterday on our local radio that made me think of this but my now sadly ex husband and I used to write daily to each other when we were apart in the early days of love!

      • Lovely romantic anecdote, and oh how sad to hear that you are divorced as well. I’m so sorry.

      • Aw thank you. It’s been nearly five years now since he said he needed to moved on. It broke my heart back then but you have to make the most of what you have in life and I have four wonderful children and very happy memories of 17 years of marriage 🙂
