Diamond in the Rough

Landscape littered with refuse
Where crow flies overhead
Where vermin scavenges for food
Where others dare not tread

Where stench of yesterday is thrown
Out on the garbage heap
Where foul odour lingers in the nose
Where rot and decay steeps

Yet midst this putrefaction
A diamond in the rough
Lies hidden, lost, abandoned
Unrefined; not buffed

But still a diamond all the same
A gem with so much more
Potential, worth, capacity
If just realised and restored

And likewise, there will be those days
Those months and maybe years
When the jewel within is tarnished by
Many wet and salty tears

Those times when circumstance may yield
Turbulence and unrest
But see those times as polishing
The inner latent best

So that the diamond in the rough
Will stand out undisguised
A precious stone shining so bright
Potential realised

Achieve!

Keep your thoughts pure and clear
Keep your hearts open and kind
Keep your purpose focussed and bright
Keep your life on track;defined

And be the best you can be
Be a beacon for the rest
Be accountable; be virtuous
And above all be honest

For chances come and chances go
In this world where we exist
But stay on the straight and narrow
And temptation you’ll resist

To let your light shine brightly
To let you be on the qui vive
To let you make the most of everything
To live fully and achieve

When the day recedes in a symphony of colour
Flaming the dusky sky
I sleep that night midst dreams on fire
As slumber passes by

Then I rise renewed to a sun kissed day
With hope priming my heart
Invigorated, alive, content
Ready to play my part

For like a stage that nature’s set
With all her glorious might
The synergy of heart and mind
Awakens true delight

And dreams aren’t lost in sleepy folds
Yet live and are set free
To bring the best out; realise
Potential within me!

Let’s Be Solution Focussed

Let’s be solution focussed
Less being so intent
On all our problems, woes and strife
That push in less relent

Let’s map out a way forward
Consider hitches too
Then board the bus determined to
Bringing goals right into view

Where aims are clearly marked out
Our vision’s crystal clear
And motivation surges through
Our head from ear to ear

Where persistence is the buzz word
With dedication’s might
Encouraged by what’s gone before
To get to the end sight

And then when we’ve discovered
This way’s the way to go
Let’s sit back, contemplate, enjoy
And just go with the flow

Each matched uniquely
To your wishes and dreams
To your hopes and desires

All those things that inspire
You to pass your own limit
Extend your sights too

If at first you don’t succeed
Tumble down or trip
Be certain to get up again
Regain control of whip
To bounce back quite decisively
And once more grab the reigns
Determined that you won’t give up
But try and try again

With a dash of stickability
A pinch of true resolve
And dose of determination
A mind set will evolve
To grow the muscle daily
That perseveres and beats
Those things that test and challenge us
That seem the biggest feat

So mix them all together
Add a drop of hell-bent might
Stir in a spoon of ‘not give up’
Until the end’s in sight
So that despite the toughest ride
The work be worthwhile
Cos no-one promised easy
In life’s mix to cross the miles

Then bake it in the oven
At a heat that just seems best
Enough to cook and bake the beast
Yet not too much to test
It’s own endurance limits
For sometimes more is less
In getting equilibrium
To win without the stress!

And finally when done spot on
Remove and see just what
Has been effected; followed through
And know that with a lot
Of focussed dedication
This is what you have done
Be proud of your accomplishment
For you’ve achieved and won!

Can become so many things
Like crisps, french fries and vodka
Then you too can spread your wings
And aspire to be the person
You dream of day by day
With a little inspiration
To go a long long way

So set your mind right to it
From wherever you may be
For think that from a field of mud
Potatoes found glory!
And thus from modest beginnings
With the will to change and grow
