If I Was An Alien

If I was an alien looking from space
I’d look at the Earth and think what a disgrace
For the blue isn’t clear and the green is all gone
The people are fighting; there’s so much so wrong
I’d think to myself are these people for real?
They’ve brains in their heads and are able to feel
They say they are civilized but is that a joke?
For this planet they’re killing and trying to choke
The breath from its lungs and its heart they don’t see
They don’t stop or listen less let alone be
At peace or contented; at one with them self
And with fags, booze and burgers they’re screwing their health
They rush here and there in a blizzard of faff
They’re peculiar beings and to be honest quite naff
And they don’t speak anymore; they don’t nod, say hello
But sit on the internet; surfing to and fro
And with all that potential I do wonder why
They don’t care for each other leaving some just to die
Or blow others up with big guns and with words
What an odd little planet, how very absurd!
But the thing that I’d wonder; that perplexes me most
Is their obsessions with aliens; pillar for post
For in the state that they’re in, do they really conceive
That I’d venture to that place!  Sadly not I believe!
And for what it is worth; I would leave in a jot
If I happened to land there; found I’d taken a spot
Up on the Earth that’s blessed above all
For these humans appear hell bent on their fall.
If I was an alien looking from space
I’d look at the Earth tears falling down from my face

Lament The World

Lament the world the rubbish piled so high
The sounds of war, the distant battle cry
The wealth in face of poverty nearby
The acid rain that falls down from the sky

Lament the world, the tears of those who mourn
The stress, the strife, the broken hearts forlorn
The dirty water streams so full of scorn
The death rate stealing those just newly born

Lament the world, who knows not what we’ve done
The progress yet still ruled by machine gun
The place called Earth where nobody has won
The web of devastation sadly spun

Trees

Within your branches, in your leaves
Unlocking with your key
The saviour of environment
Sustainability
The means to feed, to energize
To reverse all that’s bad
The degradation of the world
The world we have once had

A canopy that filters out
Effects of climate change
Preserving soil from eroding
In storms that rearrange
The homeostasis of the earth
A planet in distress
To save the world from many threats
To help; imprint; impress

For trees, just grown and planted to
Protect, preserve, prepare
The way forward to hope past this
With trees and long term care
To give the planet lungs again
Produce clean air so true
To turn back from the plagues of man
With trees – the world renew
