Life is good! Life is inspirational!

Thrive!

I saw a meme comparing development to popcorn and thought that resonates so it got ‘poemed’ (is that even a word? 🤣)

My practice has always put the person first working outside expectation and curriculum with person-centred care and support. In other words your agenda – your pace whatever age! I just wish that was the way right from early on.

What is Integrity?

Is it a buzz word that flies about
Much like a wasp with meaningless intent
Flittering on the brink of twisted fate
Where outcome surpasses means
And excuses rectitude

Or more so a way of life
Subscribing to righteousness
Adhering to ethics
Upholding morality
Navigating goodness

For that is my kind of integrity
Bottled candour defining honesty
Facing the truth head on
With accountability and honour
Amidst a world of corruption

STE(A)M (Haiku)

Where STEM becomes STEAM
Pushing back the frontiers of
Science artfully

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) is a buzz word in education which sadly excludes the Arts and will no doubt go down as one of the biggest mistakes of our time as future generations are not afforded the opportunity at school to embrace their creativity with open mindedness, seeking out the answers to some of the biggest questions we face or develop the capacity to think outside the box. For Art is all this and more and should be on the same page as the STEM subjects to enable the driving force that is STEAM.  To this end, this little haiku is dedicated to this.

Knowledge

He knows it all; knows everything
Thinks there’s nothing left to learn
So arrogant in the extreme
And yet in time; in turn
The opposite will be revealed
As gaps begin to show
How little he now understands
For knowledge really knows
That knowing is more so searching
The quest to find out more
The choice to leave no stone unturned
Nor slam shut any door

The truth that in our daily lives
There’s always more to find
More to illuminate those banks
Of knowledge in our mind
And that the task is endless; that
The job will never cease
And all bar all opinion, thought
And questions won’t release
Us from wisdom’s apprentice role
Into eternity
For there’s no cap and gown to wear
No ‘Knowledge’ BSc!

School Boys (Haiku)

Like flies round honey
School boys in black uniform
Hover over sweets

Give Your Children Just Enough

Give your children just enough
To go and make some good
But not enough that then they fail
Nor see the tree or wood
Give them a start and help them to
Appreciate this Earth
To own their own pathways ahead
Not just by right of birth

And let them harness steadfastness
Inspired to do much more
To take the little that they have
And rise on footholds sure
With knowledge that they can succeed
Be who they want to be
And open up the way ahead;
Take opportunity

To know that by their own attempts
Their focus and their might
They’ll take the little that you give
And with hard work in sight
They’ll master their autonomy
Be true to who they are
And journey whilst holding on fast
So that they will go far

Reading

The mirror past invisibility
To see what otherwise might not be seen
The way to the destination
To visit places otherwise out of reach
The connection through space
To meet those otherwise never to be met
The key to the past
The portal to the future
The acquisition of knowledge; of language
And the hand of communication
Edifying mankind by text

The Human Quest

Exponential exploration
From ape to man in space
Yet still despite such gains it seems
There’s much to learn; embrace

Acknowledging that we don’t know
All that there is out there
Beyond the universal gate
Past planets and thin air

And so with open mind we must
Discover and explore
With yearning hearts to ascertain
More knowledge that’s for sure

And search til there’s no more to search
Ask til all answers cease
In quest to find all there’s to find
Our brain banks to increase

Then journey on with minded might
To realms so very far
Extending learning with intent
As man amongst the stars

Nemesis

You think you are my nemesis
You think you will undo
My mind, my heart, my will, my life
But believe me that ain’t true
Cos I choose who I listen to
I choose how I will be
And beat the bastards, every time
Not fall but choose for free
To focus with a pure intent
Just so invincible
You think you are my nemesis
But just on principle

YOU’RE NOT!

Anyone dealing with a disability and life’s daily routines might resonate with this! In my case it’s not being beat by exams with poor health! Onwards and upwards – as they say! 🙂

Disappointed

Disappointed was the best word
Upset too strong
Let down too weak
Just plain disappointed
Trust betrayed
Hope severed
Promises broken
Saddened maybe
Frustrated definitely
Disillusioned almost certainly
But disappointed just seemed to sum it up
Disappointed!
That word hung heavy
They simply didn’t deserve him
He neatened his tie
Sighed
Picked up his books
And left
Never to look back
