I am Right and You are Wrong!

Do you ever wonder why, in a world that offers so many opportunities to understand from all the sources of information available, that the will to tolerate and understand seem to be at an all time low?

Where are our listening hearts?

Harmony

There’s a bridge that extends
Between you and me
Invisible yet there
Cross chasm and sea
Called respect, open mindedness
Less judgement and blame
That seeks out common pathways
That chooses the game
That pulls together; uplifts
That doesn’t divide
Works hard to discover
That despite different sides
We are of the same coin
Be me head and you tails
And that’s where the wealth is
On a sliding scale
T’ween my opinion and yours
However different they be
For when all’s said and done
Let’s sing in harmony

A ‘Welfie’ World

I dream of a ‘welfie’ world
Where the ‘me’ is replaced with the ‘we’
Where the common currency is love
The common language is respect
Bound in individual responsibility
Uniting each one
And bringing together the world
Connected
Joined
Working as one
In an image celebrating diversity
Yet unified by worldcentric vision
Portrayed in one powerful snapshot
Otherwise known as US

Bleeding World

There aren’t enough tears to be cried
Nor near enough droplets of rain
Not enough lakes, oceans and seas
To wash away all of this pain

For the world has a gash to her heart
A chasm of untold deep grief
A bleed that cannot be stopped
Where mere words won’t bring any relief

For as long as disunion exists
Persecution and terror abides
As long as guns blast away peace
The split will open wider; divide

And there won’t be concord til the day
Humanity joins together as one
Where judgement is counselled by truth
And love in each other runs strong

Where the light of freedom shines so bright
And filters deep into the core
Where unity will triumph and bring
Harmony in place of all war

Bigoted Boy

Bigoted boy
With your views all awry
No compassion nor care
So much hatred – I cry

So much venom in young blood
So much failure to see
The bigger picture in life
Lacking integrity

For your judgements disclose
Discrimination and more
Prejudice, contempt, meanness
A heart that is poor

That lacks real understanding
A spirit that’s broke
That’s cruel and unworthy
That throttles and chokes

That hurts the world and her people
For bigoted boy
Your tactics just stink
Don’t build up but destroy

For they damn any hope
Any truth; any love
And miss the altitudes view
When we look from above!

So take just a moment
To think if you will
To step back and consider
With less dogma still

And know that perfection
Just doesn’t exist
As your bigotry’s proved
Now ain’t that the twist!

The Wolf Whistle

She’s sauntered along the street
Heels clicking on the pavement
Anticipating a wonderful day
Full of repose and calm
With hair set to perfection
Lipstick reddened
Rouge rosy
Eyes defined and soul alive
On destiny’s path
Sun shining
Bird’s tweeting
Against the hum of city traffic

She walked the boardwalk
Claiming today as her own
Confident; sassy; jovial
Her mood matching the beauty of the day
Her heart bubbling
Spirits smiling
But then in an instant her peace was shattered
By the whistle
The heckling hoot
Harassed humiliation
From the wolf’s primeval call

She stumbled on her pathway
Thrown off-balance to betray her disquiet
Objectified by the stranger’s lust
Mortified by her selection
Her sexuality penetrated
Embarrassed
Heart heavy
As clouds killed her sunshine
For what?
And why?
Her inner sanctum raped

The Rainbow

In circle band of spectral light
In sky illusion’s ring
From clouds to view the loop so clear
Below the arc rising

From red to green to violet
Sun’s rays refracted through
And mirrored in the rain, the mist
Or even morning dew

Still more a second bow appears
Beholden reversed rays
From indigo to yellows; reds
In turn above displays

A covenant to all the earth
Of rich diversity
As Nature’s prism shines; revels
The power of unity

The Rainbow

Freedom Call

From the cradle to the grave
Impart a creed of love
Teach fairness and teach tolerance
With peace combined thereof

And don’t let colour of a skin
Nor disability
Sit in the seat of judgement where
The truth is hard to see

Don’t rush to brash assumption
Nor empower a path of blame
But turn away from hatred
Lest all else that might inflame

And light a fire within your heart
One that considers all
With outreach, empathy and hope
Unite the freedom call

Liberty

Liberty – human privilege
Protection of all men
Of women, children; sacrosanct
Freedom to hold the reign
Of life, the way you chose to go
The path that you might tread
Without suppression in the way
Stopping oppression dead
To have and hold autonomy
With independence true
Not confined or restricted by
Red tape and others too
To stand for all equality
Discrimination fall
To advocate a fairer way
That safeguards one and all
To be self-regulating and
To honour human rights
For choice, justice and liberty
The heart of freedom fights

Big Ideas

She had such grandiose ideas
So much bigger than her means
She believed she was the queen of all
Superior in her dreams
She thought the world revolved around
Her and her alone
She assumed she took the spotlight
The pinnacle and throne

But when illusion fell away
She felt her truer state
A normal girl; normality
And nothing quite so great
An equal one; part of a crowd
Where ego took a dive
A place not so salubrious
But still a place to feel alive

For everyone should feel that they
Are treasured and unique
Cherished for what they contribute
Distinctive and not week
Supported by all other folk
To thrive prosperously
But by the same uphold the rights
Of others equally
