Tolerate

Think!  Patience is a virtue
Open wider your mind’s eye
Live and walk in other’s shoes
Enrich – diversify
Respect the ways of others
And be there to give support
Take care of all upon this Earth
Enjoy!  No second thought.

Liberty

Liberty – human privilege
Protection of all men
Of women, children; sacrosanct
Freedom to hold the reign
Of life, the way you chose to go
The path that you might tread
Without suppression in the way
Stopping oppression dead
To have and hold autonomy
With independence true
Not confined or restricted by
Red tape and others too
To stand for all equality
Discrimination fall
To advocate a fairer way
That safeguards one and all
To be self-regulating and
To honour human rights
For choice, justice and liberty
The heart of freedom fights

No Means No!

No means No
It doesn’t mean ‘maybe’
Or ‘go on – let’s try’
It doesn’t have a ‘yeah but’
Or an ‘if’ or even ‘why’
It doesn’t mean ‘in a minute’
Isn’t negotiable; up for dispute
And it certainly just doesn’t mean
‘Who cares! Do I give a hoot?’
It means precisely what it says
A clear decisive ‘No’
A statement that needs nothing else
For No means strictly No!

Apologies

Sincere apologies received
With no real true resolve
To make amend, to heal the hurt
Might just as well dissolve
For lies that sit in tangent to
Those words without good deeds
Will mean no more than those not said
And only sow a seed
Of further discontent and hate
Of upset that goes on
So make your sorries mean something
Lest dare they make more wrong!

Responsibility

Where is responsibility?
Where is duty of care?
Where is accountability?
Where is the heart out there?
Where is the means of those who should
Know better and act more?
Where are the feet of giants who must
Step up? We do implore!

For each and every day it seems
No-one will take a stand
And honour obligation or
Take commitment hand in hand
Yet pass the buck, let people down
Renege on their duty
Where is the means to sort this out
In truth responsibly?

Be Sure Your Lies Will Find You Out

Be sure your lies will find you out
Your trickery laid bare
Hypocrisy and pure contempt
Exposed in open air
Your blatant fraud and cheating ways
Dishonesty and cons
Will be revealed on judgement day
Along with your put-ons

For honesty’s the only thing
That stays the test of time
And truth so spoke with open heart
Will hold rhythm and rhyme
So turn your back on fraudulence
And let your word be true
Step up and be accountable
Hold fast to pure virtue

The Dog Pen

I sit, I stare, I look, I see
Through wires that chain my liberty
Through cage constraints and padlocked door
I sit, I wait, I wait some more
I knock the bowl of water there
I ruffle bedding with no care
I hide behind the fenced enclave
I need to yowl, to bark, to save
Myself from here as master calls
My leash tied up – on floor I fall
As man’s best friend I want to cry
Out loud with pity, left to die
In pen outside the hearth and home
No longer free to run and roam
No longer free to play at will
No longer cared for, left all still
I pray that soon he’ll forgive me
My father man and set me free
Untie the ropes, unleash the chain
And let me in his heart again
And then the world will welcome me
For I’m a child, not dog you see

This is a based on a true story retold by two children locked in a dog pen as punishment for bad behaviour when they were younger.  It affected both of them differently but specifically for years afterwards it led to a breakdown in what otherwise could have been a very special relationship.   However, they are not alone in their trials.  It could equally be the same for children who are barricaded in their rooms for hours, sat on naughty steps, in emotional turmoil all alone for behaviour that might need dealing with but isolation and negative reinforcement such as this are inappropriate and rarely work in the long term more so understanding, compassion and a commitment to working through problems together with carers.  Critically though it could so equally be the story of countless other children though who have constrained against their will in other environments; the picture of child slavery that still goes on today.  We need to highlight this issue to STOP it once and for all!

Be You: Be True: Be Brave

Walk away from those defiling you
Retreat from those who call
You names or throw you sticks and stones
For they are bullies all
And know through faith and family
And friends who you can trust
That beauty isn’t skin deep nor
What’s on the surface crust
But look a little deeper and
Be real to who you are
To live the life intended so
You rise and do not scar
For worth is there for you to hold
For you to have, to save
And love is unconditional
Be you – be true – be brave!

Tolerance

A subscription to such freedom
Away from bigotries
To tolerance and patience for
All nationalities

Toleration that is a fair
Objective attitude
Allowing different races all
An equal magnitude

The practice of recognizing
Beliefs that others hold
With lenience, forbearance and
Acceptance ever bold

Dispelling with such bias
That comes with prejudice
Broad-mindedness and fairness
Less judgement and malice

Tolerance to accommodate
The you, the them, the me
Committing to a higher plane
A world that is more free

Conversation

When you speak, be quick to listen
Close eyes to fully see
What’s being said around you first
What’s spoken audibly

And consider what the other
In discourse does relay
And what is their perceptual view
Received from what you say

For dialogue is a patchwork
A quilt of many threads
That can build up quite a story
Or leave one feeling dead

It’s a two way conversation
Embracing mutually
The art of dialogue and chat
That’s oral aurally
