Sonnet To Year Sixes

I look back on my school days happily
The friends I’ve made and all those hours of fun
Like fab times that are in my memory
Shining brightly like rays from a hot sun
That sparkle like the stars up in the sky
All fresh and good like grass so verdant green
That fly so free on wings of bird up high
The best days of my life that there have been
And yet now I must say a sad farewell
And move to a new school further away
To make more friends and hear a fresh class bell
As new beginnings open up each day
Yet still I will have learnt so much from here
As now I step into my seventh year

The Test!

“Yes, I think the answer is a test
To see what you can do”
The teacher said as he arrived
The class now feeling blue
“Let’s test you to assess how you’ll
Do when we test again
To test the test that will test you
To test what’s in your brain”

“Yes an exam, mid-term review
Assessment, mock or test
Just call it what you want to say
A trial.  Now don’t get stressed!
And then we’ll do it all again
Exams now tit for tat”
The teacher said as he arrived
No surprise he was called “Pratt”

“But Mr Pratt” the class implored
What is the point you make
To test the test that you will test
The test we might retake!
What is the reason for these tests
That happen every day!
Oh, Mr Pratt – when will we learn?
It’s not the only way?”

With every best wish to all those taking mocks in the next few weeks 🙂

Teacher MOTS’s

So the latest idea proffered
Will test teachers to see
If they’re really up to scratch and
Can pass an MOT
To see which ones are worthy to
Educate our child
With more certification and
Stress to drive them wild

Now some are naturally aghast
And others still dismayed
For would re-registration find
Those who’ve gone astray
Or find old school educators
Who still prefer the cane
Those who put children though the mills
Those charlatans insane

And what about those teachers who
Sink in scholastic brooks
Would it help and give them succour
Or simply overlook?
In essence would it really work
Or just be an expense
Costing big bucks; lots of money
To make no difference?
