Life is good! Life is inspirational!

Aging

So I appear to be getting older
With more greys than blond for sure
With creaky joints and eyes that aren’t
So focussed anymore

And I see my midline growing
That – I don’t like, I confess
Whilst my heart’s a flipping nuisance
With AWOL beats from stress!

It also takes a little longer
To get from a to b
To mow the lawn or walk the dog
Or even make the tea!

Yet the culprit for these issues
Appears not to care a jot
Just sits there by his armchair
Almost rooted to the spot!

He never lifts a finger
Nor offers to assist
Moreso waves his arms in circles
To ensure no second’s missed

And to drive the point home further
He calls out to ensure
That hourly I’m reminded of
Time knocking on my door!

For whilst I am but human
And aging is my destiny
His face simply never changes
And he stays all wrinkle free!

His frame remains in-tact
Age makes no odds to him
He never gains an ounce of fat
And really stays quite slim

And so long as he’s wound daily
His ticker tick tick tocks
For you see the bane of all my aging woes
I blame on Grandfather Clock!

Thursday

Were it but a different day
A Monday full of hope with her new beginnings
Or Tuesday where inspiration has the edge
Even a Wednesday in the knowledge of week half done
Or a Friday proffering excited anticipation for the morrow
Were it but a Saturday; a day of action and adventure
Or resplendent Sunday relaxing in the balmy weekend throes
Were it yet any of this
But nay it is a Thursday
Neither here nor there but stuck somewhere in between

Leap Second Logic

Oh my god I’m so excited
For at midnight today
We’ll get an extra second
With a leap second delay
As time stands still so briefly
A moment to take stock
Whilst all around the world we’ll halt
The tick tock of the clocks!

Yes that’s an extra sixtieth
Of a minute to
Maximise and make good use of
Extending life for you
A jiffy or an instant
That you won’t get again
But don’t go losing sleep if you
Stay put, in bed remain!

Wishes For The Week

Here’s to a week of opportunity
Of challenges; of more
Where the sun shines in your heart and head
And bursts through open doors
Where stars twinkle through darkness
With beams of hope and light
To make this week the best with joy
So everything goes right!

Now

So it seems ‘now‘ is but just a hoax
An illusion from the past
A perception always out of date
That simply can’t be classed
As present in the moment
For here’s the very twist
That now is then and then’s not now
So now doesn’t exist!

What Hour Is This?

What hour is this? So early!
A ruse to get me up
To think I am a Lark of sorts
That drinks from sunrise cup

That wakes me from the dreams I’ve had
That bids me see the day
Yet I for one am quite content
To hibernate away

And stay under the bed clothes
Snuggle in duvet’s plume
Desperate to grab those extra Zeds
Though bells ring through the room

For with the clash of hammers
That buzz from my alarm
The day bursts forth with fortitude
And loses any charm!

Down To The Wire

Down to the wire; the best laid plan
That comes about on time
No dallying not wasting breath
Or standing in a line
But executed perfectly
To be so organised
As to effect efficiency
Despite last minute guise
And so to be just so spot on
With timing to a tee
That says though you thought I’d be late
I’m actually timely!

Down To The Wire

Felony

Someone stole an hour last night
Yet no one has declared
Just who it was or what they did
With sixty minutes spare

And with the crime scene evident
Inspectors have arrived
To check out all the evidence
And see which hours survived

They’ll see which one went missing
Which one paid the high price
For no-ones sure exactly which
Hour lost out to the heist

And blue and white tape’s everywhere
Wrapped all around the clock
Yet somehow, somewhere there’s a ruse
That midnight’s in the dock

For murdering the first hour
Conspiring with hour two
But where 1 am has been hid
Is strange cos there’s no clue

So if you’ve information
Have seen or even heard
Anything please speak to the police
As it is quite absurd!

For not only has an hour gone
The culprit’s still at large
Who may strike again next Springtime
If no-one brings a charge

Circadian rhythms

Circadian rhythms
Life’s gentle tempo
Synchronising innately
Internal pulse on the go
Regulating organically
As zeitgebers unlock
The ways and behaviours
Modulating the clock
That ticks through each one of us
Entraining the way
To adjust biologically
To each night and each day

Time

Time the fourth dimension
That gets us through each day
Ticking by second, minute, hour
To take us on our way

From past to present, future
It goes continually
From then, to now and onwards still
Into eternity

A measure of duration and
The gaps that fall between
Observed by calendar and clock
Yet never ever seen

And so by temporal measurement
Yet seldom just defined
Time walks its passage through our lives
And cannot be confined

Time
