Every Day is Made More Special

Life’s Garden

Grow the stuff of empathy
Cultivate compassion too
Nurture love and helpfulness
Bring concord into view
To propagate a garden
In life that smells so sweet
Full of flowers and natures goodness
To grace each one you meet

Heartstrings

Not only does it beat and tick
Expand; contract in time
But plays and pulls on strings that go
Past rhythm and past rhyme

Emotions calling unified
The threads that join each one
Across the planet; souls combined
Invisible and long

That extend metaphysically
Through ether and through air
Connections that conjoin each heart
To stretch from here to there

That tug when distance separates
By elasticity
As a reminder that we will
Love through eternity

In Control

We wake – we take – we choose – we die
We live – we breathe – we might comply
But won’t succumb to other things
That hold our life in ransomed strings
Save have a creed that’s fair and free
A life that’s based on liberty
To make the choices we would make
To take from life what we would take
And out of that we’ll contribute
To all around; to walk in boot
Of those who need a helping hand
To live our life in our command
To be the one that owns our goal
For from that base we’ll have control

Disability

When you have a disability
And a ‘hidden’ one at that
It’s not so much what you can’t do
That leaves you feeling flat
But the attitudes of others who
Just twist and turn the knife
With jibes and nasty comments that
Can ail and add more strife

The lack of understanding and
The fear to comprehend
The void of pure compassion or
Aversion to befriend
The cowering from all contact lest
The blame – indignity
The failure to see past the mask
Of disability

But those who stand out from the crowd
Who smile and take the time
To say hello or shake a hand
Tap out a different rhyme
That uplifts and renews all faith
In pure humanity
For smallest feats make largest steps
And mean the most you see!

Every Day Is Made More Special

Every day is made more special
By the company we keep
The folk along whose path we walk
And those with whom we dare to talk
The friendships that we reap

For lives we touch, ingratiate
Those to whom we tender care
Will offer hope; extend our heart
Risk all for kindness on our part
With breaths of pure fresh air

The Wisdom of Kindness

If you want to grow some wisdom
There’s a seed in you and me
That develops through the seasons
Much like the old oak tree
Sagacious in its branches yet
Starting so very small
A seed that doesn’t shout and rant
But reaches out to all
Not cynical; not assuming
The buds of wiser ways
That blooms pure and simple kindness
For more insightful ways

For kindness is the birthplace that
Manoeuvres out of care
That removes all other blinkers
For truer truth out there
That consciously attunes and sees
The other’s points and views
With comfort and encouragement
For wisdom to infuse
Where power becomes more balanced to
Uplift humanity
In the spotlight of wisdom’s nest
Right in the old oak tree

At The Heart Of Every Nation

At the heart of every nation
Are those who really care
Those folk who go the extra mile
To be, to do, to share
Those people who will always put
Themselves out, lend a hand
Those others who will give their time
No task too small; too grand
They give their heart,they sacrifice
Day in, day out they pledge
Their lives in constant service to
Those on health’s wearing edge
And in return they ask for n’owt
‘Cept maybe just a smile
To know that all are comfortable
And cared for in their trials
For any trials that are endured
These carers will then try
To help alleviate the pain
To wipe the tears all dry.

The Christmas Cake

Take a 100 grams of flour
And add a little more
Take some sugar from the cupboard
Add fruit and eggs all raw
Then stir it up together
With spoons of happiness
And add the last ingredients
For a cake that’s truly blessed

The special last ingredients
A dashing of pure love
With cups of hope and kindness bright
Lest wishes from above
Add joy and family spirit
Compassion and sweet care
And mix and blend it all as one
For the best of Christmas fayre

Then put it in the oven warm
To bake for a long time
To cook where sweet aromas waft
For something quite sublime
Then top with frosted icing
And decorate with cheer
To wish each a Merry Christmas
And a blessed Happy New Year

A Single Moment

If I could create a single moment
Then I’d choose one that would be
Full of happiness and kindness
Expressing how much you mean to me

To show you that I love you
To uphold and lift and care
One to take away your burdens
And answer all your prayers

A moment that would stop the clock
To bring out the sun so bright
To shoot a star up in the sky
Against the moonlit night

To give a glimpse of heaven
To shine down a faithful ray
Yes in a single moment
I’d create the perfect day

A single moment
