What Kind Of World Do We Live In?

What kind of world do we live in
What hatred abounds
Where wars sap earth’s bounty
Where animosity is found

What kind of world do we live in
Where is the peace
The love and the kindness
When did that cease

What kind of world do we live in
With starvation and curse
Where is the compassion
Why does it get worse

What kind of world do we live in
Where murder is rife
Where each beats the other
And the only answer’s a knife

What kind of world do we live in
Without souls and no hearts
Where trusts have been broken
Or are breaking apart

Why kind of world do we live in
Where lies are complex
And dishonour abundant
Another reason to vex

What kind of world do we live in
What planet is this
Where Earth’s beauty is lost
A beauty I miss

Clean

I wonder if we never cleaned
What would happen to this place
Would it vanish in clouds of dust
A dirty huge disgrace
Or would it simply just become
A layered ball full of fluff
That we would grow accustomed to
And not get then give a stuff

Or is this dust a man-made thing
From all our cleaning ways?
And clutter that we hoard and keep
Throughout our earthbound days
So that by not then cleaning
The dust just then conceals
The bits and bobs that cause the mess
Does it otherwise reveal?

Reveal ourselves as dust makers
The dirt creators dream
And not really as clean as we
Might like always to seem
For tidy, messy, clean or not
The thing with humanity
Is that each one of us has made
Our planet quite dirty!

And yet we don’t all notice
We don’t stop and see the mess
This over burned home we have
That’s crying from the stress
Of pollution and waste products
Dirty water and disease
I wonder if we never clean
Will her anguish ever ease?

Lament The World

Lament the world the rubbish piled so high
The sounds of war, the distant battle cry
The wealth in face of poverty nearby
The acid rain that falls down from the sky

Lament the world, the tears of those who mourn
The stress, the strife, the broken hearts forlorn
The dirty water streams so full of scorn
The death rate stealing those just newly born

Lament the world, who knows not what we’ve done
The progress yet still ruled by machine gun
The place called Earth where nobody has won
The web of devastation sadly spun
