Every Day is Made More Special

Friendship

When you’re rejected and feel broken
And the world is such a drag
When everything seems so uphill
And life is such a fag
When the smiles have all but vanished
When the stars have lost their shine
When all seems such a burden
Know that as a friend of mine
I will not simply vanish
I won’t judge you; I won’t frown
I won’t kick you when you’re hurting
I’ll pick you up when you are down
And I’ll be there til the last breath
Til no more you fear and cry
Til all days and nights are ended
And the sun falls from the sky
And even in that moment
And then for evermore
I’ll cherish our dear friendship
Hold it steadfast; hold it sure

Pass On A Hug

Break down the walls
Build bridges and see
How a hug can embrace
Love instantly

Dispel fear; cast out hatred
Cross any divide
With pat on the back
Arms wrapped round neck and round sides

And let it deliver its payload
Of wellbeing and more
Cos when a hug comes a-calling
You’ll feel cherished for sure

For past words and their sentiments
A hug simply says
Support, friendship, connection
In its own unique way

So pass on a hug
For a moment of care
To bring comfort and joy
To another out there!

Break Ups

You marry them and you think
Life’s going to be fine
But that’s not always the true case
As you find out down the line
When they screw you over
Lie and deceive
And then try to pretend
That it would be great if you two could
Remain the best of friends
Yet that is not how it works out
For if you want to stay
A friend with your ex, I suggest
You play fair every day
Be honest, show integrity
In everything you do
Even when you want to split up
Be kind; compassionate too
And think just what you are doing
To the one that you have loved
Put yourself in their shoes for a while
And approach them with kid gloves
Considering how you would feel
If you were in their place
For break ups are quite hard to bear
So tiptoe with much grace
And concede that emotions will
Fly round and round a bit
As hurt subsides and passions cease
To have such a snug fit
And then leave space where it’s needed
Respect your ex and wait
Until they want to speak to you
Until their nerves don’t grate
At just the mention of your name
The smell of aftershave
Or perfume that they recognize
For you’re not there to save
Them from their fate nor control them
Tell them what to do each day
Nor interfere with their lives for
You chose to walk away
And as such you much thus accept
That though you’d like to be
Their friend forever, as you once were
You have to set them free
To live, to learn and love again
To find their own heartbeat
For then in time you may find out
They’ll be prepared to greet
You as a friend and say hello
Maybe even share a brew
But when alls said and all is done
It will be down to you
To handle your relationship
The way that you would choose
How others would also treat you
Then you’ll have nowt to lose!

The Reunion (Haiku)

The reunion
Celebrating friendships that
Have survived time’s test

Good Friends

Hung over from the night that was
Drunk on laughter
Intoxicated by great company
Revelling in a little thing called
Good Friendship!

Disability

When you have a disability
And a ‘hidden’ one at that
It’s not so much what you can’t do
That leaves you feeling flat
But the attitudes of others who
Just twist and turn the knife
With jibes and nasty comments that
Can ail and add more strife

The lack of understanding and
The fear to comprehend
The void of pure compassion or
Aversion to befriend
The cowering from all contact lest
The blame – indignity
The failure to see past the mask
Of disability

But those who stand out from the crowd
Who smile and take the time
To say hello or shake a hand
Tap out a different rhyme
That uplifts and renews all faith
In pure humanity
For smallest feats make largest steps
And mean the most you see!

Every Day Is Made More Special

Every day is made more special
By the company we keep
The folk along whose path we walk
And those with whom we dare to talk
The friendships that we reap

For lives we touch, ingratiate
Those to whom we tender care
Will offer hope; extend our heart
Risk all for kindness on our part
With breaths of pure fresh air
