Bank Holiday Weekend

Bank holiday weekend!
What are you going to do?
Perhaps a spot of gardening
Of have a barbecue
Or maybe you will trundle to
The beach right by the sea
Or play a round of golf or more
Go out for lunch or tea

Perchance you’ll browse around the shops
Frequent a house on show
Or even work out in the gym
Then to the theatre go
Or mayhap you’ll sit in traffic jams
Or cycle far beyond
Walk the dog or visit friends
Go fishing at the pond

The endless possibilities
To keep us in the zone
Of “doing” relaxation til
It’s time to leave our home
On Tuesday morning next week when
Alarm clocks ring their bell
And then we’ll want to stay in bed
And think “Oh what the hell!”

Birthday Candles

Birthday candles, burning bright
Enough to set the house alight
And give sufficient heat to still
Warm up the room lest pay the bill
“For how many?”  I hear you say
“So many candles for one day!”
But fear not though through C O 2
We’ll sing happy birthday to you!

Part of this year's twenty. Geez, I'm getting old.

A Day Off

If I could have a day off chores?
I’d feel so very glad
Would it really be that lazy?
Would it really be so bad?

And a day without the washing
Would just make me so happy
No hanging out and bringing in
Or ironing with my tea!

And to have a break from cleaning
Dusting shelves and mopping floors
Would be a complete blessing
Oh please – I do implore

Or to take some time off cooking
From grating cheese and all
We could go out and have dinner
To avoid the kitchen’s call

Just a day to not do anything
A day to rest and see
The way life really could be
Without chores and liberty

The freedom to chillax a bit
And rest my weary legs
To watch TV or maybe shop
For clothes just off the peg

So could I have a day off chores
I’d feel so very glad
Would it really be that lazy?
Would it really be so bad?

Diversity

I’ve often sat and wondered
What the hook is with DIY
What fascinates those people
Who love nails and wood, 3 ply
Those who relish time in home stores
Those whose sheds become their lair
And why it is they’re obsessional
About their drills and other fayre.

And then there are the gardeners
What keeps their interest keen?
Their daily dedication
In keeping grass and fingers green.
What captivates, enthrals them?
What drives them to be best?
And why is it I ponder,
They don’t stop and have a rest?

Then the ornithologists remain a riddle
Along with those who fish and who train spot.
Or those who play a round of golf –
What maintains their interest hot?
But those pursuing dangerous endeavours
Are the ones that fox me most
Be it skydiving from an aeroplane
Or bungee jumping off a post!

But in essence on reflection,
In all these different pursuits
There’s one little gem that links us
That unites us all, to boot
For the fact that we’re all different
And like such variety
Puts a spectral rainbow in the sky
That celebrates our diversity.
