Through the crisp night air
A dog barks incessantly
Yapping at the heels of a shadow
As ethereal spirits dance amongst the branches
And whispers rustle in the leaves
In the distance an owl screeches
And cats yowl in the feint light of a distant moon
Whilst the world sleeps
Or at least tries to!
Oh be quiet noisy neighbours
With your racket late at night
And children screaming out so loud
In the light of moonlight
For you’re being such a nuisance
As we try to get to sleep
So hush now rowdy neighbours
And more sociable hours keep!!
For every night at midnight
We really do not care
For boozy brawls and hysterics
It simply isn’t fair
And though it might be summer
As the lighter hours increase
Consider those who’ve gone to bed
And keep the dratted peace!
Okay we hear you! Yes we hear you!
Raucous bird we hear your call
Your rattling up in the air
To another seagull
We hear you squark and blether
To each other! Yes we do!
But really do you have to shout
And make this racquet too
So early in the morning
So early in the day
Oh noisy bird! How do have
So very much to say?
They gather in their thousands
In flocks that caw and screech
All white and territorial
They sit right near the beach
And shout to one another
Yell, as some would say
And mooch around the reservoir
In avian display!
