The Empathetic Tango

Come dance a tango throughout life
Conjoined by unseen string
The glue that like a magnet leads
Emotively to cling.

Affecting each partaker in
A consequential way
To alter function’s structure in
The rhythm and the sway

An empathetic tango danced
Together naturally
‘Tween nature and environment
So influentially

Our Children’s Future

He sat there in his office
With no reality
And thought of such a good idea
One that pleased him not me

“Let’s make a ‘university’
For children aged from two
Yes let’s incarcerate their souls
Forget their parents too
For if we catch them while their young
Then we can be quite sure
To grow and then develop them
To learn oh so much more”

“Like robotic citizens who’ll
Vote blue just like their blood
That we’ll have tainted through the years
Brainwashed in tidal floods
Of government control and reign
Where they’ll be less contact
With Mum and Dad for all we know
They’ll lead them off the track!”

“Yes,” he thought, as he enjoyed
The musings of his mind
“We’ll get them all in our control
And then you’ll simply find
That all the problems will just go
Just up and disappear
For children should be into school
Before their second year”

“Before their parents can destroy
Their perfect little lives
For we the government knows best
For all the under fives!
And blow those psychos who might say
Attachments will be lost
And stats – well they’re most likely wrong
Why would there be a cost”

And so as he just sat and spoke
My eyes began to burn
With tears for childhoods to be lost
And many more concerns
For there should be no hot pursuit
Of children while their young
Save for encouragement to build
Bonds that will stay so strong

Bonds with the carers of these babes
Whose in their arms they lay
Not lay the armour out and treat
Small lives in this cruel way!

Apologies now for any who might be offended by “political” poems but after the latest opinions proffered last week and the general trends in educational policy that are being reported at the moment, this is my heartfelt plea to allow our children to keep their childhood, to go out of our way to encourage and support the nurture of strong and lifelong bonds with children’s primary carers and a keener eye on their emotional and psychological well-being for positive, healthy outcomes in later life.

Born To Trust

Born to trust so innocently
Cradled naivety
With eyes that seek so openly
For love to come for free
With arms that reach to safety’s shore
With hearts that beat so fast
Expectancy and hope embraced
At birth but will it last?

Dependent for all sustenance
For nurturing by grace
To search the contours of a smile
A warm reliant face
With no more than pure faith; belief
And hope of loving aid
From those who brought this new life forth
That babe in arms is laid

And so we have a duty to
Protect the small wee child
To give the love that they desire
With kindness ever mild
Honour the gift of life that trusts
In each with love impart
To step up and safeguard each life
With shelter, shield and heart

To

To hold a child’s small hand
To hear their fast heart beat
To listen to their song and rhyme
To walk their steps petite
To hear their worries and their toils
To understand their mind
To take the time so selflessly
To give; to be so kind
To uplift all their worth
To cherish their esteem
To speak with love; to act the same
To let them hope and dream
To pray for their safe keeping
To keep them from all ill
To save them from a fallen path
To bid them their free will
To accept them as they are
To teach them every day
To lead them to green pastures
To believe in what they say
To honour and protect them
To help them do their part
To see the good and happiness
To hold their hand and heart

It’s Truly More Than DNA

Look out parents don’t delay
It’s truly more than DNA
For children are a blend of two
Their genes for sure and their milieu!

“Their environment?  How come?”  you say.
But it can rewire on the way,
And make a difference; manipulate
Your kids into a different state.

So when you parent and drag them on
Beware for it can go so wrong!
Instead encourage, support and care
With abundant love right in there!

For the environment is absolute
In choosing not to rear a brute
And raising angels all the way
For it’s truly more than DNA!
