The Bee

Give me pollen – give me nectar
I’ll keep right out your way
But flap your arms and run about
And then I’ll have my say

And sting you oh so quickly
To say “just get a grip”
Cos acting up scares me so much
And then I have to nip

But please don’t take any offence
And kill me if I do
Cos in all truth I’m here to serve
And make honey for you!

Golden Fields

Behold the golden sunshine fields
The waves of yellow spread
The verdant stalks with aurous bloom
With ochroid flowering head

The ocean’s mass so iodic
The seed that rapes the eye
To steal the breath of those who see
The brassica out lie

Behold the golden sunshine fields
The waves of yellow spread
The verdant stalks with aurous bloom
The rape-seed oily bed

Weeds

Weeds can be rather pretty but
To gardeners they’re the pits
Depending on position and
If in their garden sits

For to see them in a meadow
Can be a glorious sight
But put them in your flower beds and
The picture’s not so bright

And so these weeds are rendered
Dichotomous at best
In nature, pretty native flowers
Yet in gardens, nature’s pest!

Rose

Beware the beauty of the rose
The flower with thorny shard
With bloom that rivals beauty bright
Or simply a façade?

The marriage of both love and hate
Dichotomous accord
The Rose with petals; fragrance sweet
Next poisoned dart on board

The thorn that draws on blood so red
As red as heart’s desire
With short sharpness in stark defence
The barb that cuts like wire

Beware the beauty of the rose
The flower with thorny shard
With bloom that rivals beauty bright
Or simply a façade?

Bed of Roses

They say that life is simply not
A bed of roses pure
But I just cannot take that line
And think it is for sure

For roses come with many things
With thorns and petal growth
So when we talk of such a bed
It takes account of both

The thing to see though isn’t good
Or bad as different things
But see the sliding scale of life
The ups and downs it brings

Then understand that through all this
Just like a rose we grow
Where thorns and petals blend as one
To make the flower we know

The flower that blooms with brilliance
In great displays to see
So that our lives reflect this bed
Of roses constantly
