You know when you get away and the creative juices flow? Well this weekend has been one of fresh air, beautiful scenery, opportunities to draw and an occasion to write about! Feeling very blessed.

I saw a sign at Sainsbury’s
Pointing to a new hotel
Abreast some stilts stuck in the ground
For somewhere safe to dwell
Where a million little windowpanes
In honey combed array
Said ‘welcome to our hotel
Please enjoy your stay.’
I thought I’ll do my shopping
Then book in there to rest
For a night of being spoilt
Would render me less stressed
So, with champagne in hand and chocolates
I headed to book in
Complete with my favourite book in tow
And can of rhubarb gin
But when I saw the front of house
I had a change of mind
For he was garbed in bright yellow
With black stripes around him lined!
And with a sting in tail, he said
“Buzz off! Get Lost! Farewell!
For you cannot stay here human!
This is a bee hotel”
If we assimilate opinion
From sources of similarity
Then opinions will be influenced
By the views these sources see.
But if we broaden our horizons
Or acknowledge our own dearth,
Then new perspectives on our opinions
Will subsequently be unearthed
And as such these new opinions
Whether they shift or stay the same,
May then recognise the bias
That exists in what we claim.
For a forged opinion may come out of
What we know or think we know.
But these notions in all fairness
May be flawed or need to grow!
And thus whilst knowledge, by definition,
Maybe true, it may be wise
To recognise that opinion’s truth values
Come in more than just one size.
Exploring Love through the words of Shakespeare and the Bible. Love is life’s elixir – an energy that transcends space and time emanating from within.
“Move over,” said the sprout aloud
To the fare on Christmas Day
“For throughout the year I watch you all
In your very grand displays
And have to sit awaiting for
My turn to be the best
But wait I do with no complaint
For at least I can attest
To being the nation’s favourite
When it comes to this festivity
For like or hate me as they do
Few dare to exclude me!”
“Oh, get a life!” the Turkey groaned
“You silly Nobby green.
For it is as clear as clear can be
That I reign all supreme
At Christmas time for everyone
Knows on that day, I beat
Hands down beef, pork, lamb, goose and duck
As well as chicken meat!
For its not you but I’m the choice
At the nation’s Christmas feast
Yes, me, the Turkey, King of Meats,
Beats all other fowl and beast!”
“Now hang on,” a chestnut then piped in
“For though you may be king
Dear Turkey, and you may be picked
Dear Sprout, you small green thing!
I think you’ll find that it is me
Who most associate
With Christmas tidings every year
For I can celebrate
All roasty, come out of shell,
Appear as stuffing too
Be sweet or savoury as you know
So, beat the pair of you!”
And with that such a fight kicked off
Commotion in the larder store
As other foodstuffs pitched right in
Demanding they meant more
Yet hidden somewhere out of view
All quietly in his tin
Without vying to be the best
No arrogance or din
A little chap with starry hat
And sumptuous filled up case
Sat knowing in his heart that he,
Mince Pie, was worth first place!
For Christmas comes but once a year
And with it goodies abound
Chocolates, wine, sweets and savouries
In plenty are then found
Yet Mince Pie didn’t feel the need
To state his place for he
Knew Christmas was much more than that
And most importantly
He knew that it was more about
Each one playing his part
To bring about the festive spread
Be each a veg, nut meat or tart!
Snow , hail, wind, rain
April showers of every vein
Running through these bizarre weeks
From March to May as weather tweaks
It’s shape for summer; here by June
Before next winter comes too soon!
Come celebrate the saint, Saint George
The knight who dragon slay
Upholding his faith to the end
To walk the Christian way
The man whose legend goes beyond
A story to a realm
A kingdom that unites all else
To stand right at the helm
The land who green and pleasant lands
Have paved through history
A reason to shout out about
My England; great country!
