Blood Moon

Such magnificence; such beauty
Such colour that imbues
La Luna on this autumn night
With harvest moon in view

Resplendent in her regalia
Of ruby orange glow
Midst diamond studded starlit sky
Seen from the world below

Commanding awe and wonder
She reaps with mystic might
To gather in the souls of those
Regarding her tonight

Mind’s Muscle

Mind as a muscle
To hone and to train
To work out; to exercise
To take up the strain
To energise; enliven
Exert then let rest
For a mind that is strong
To survive life’s long test

Flow

When the world offers no mercy
Let poetry stand out
Stand out like an island of sanity
Midst the harsh seas of chaos
Breathing order
To bring about peace
To bring about joy
To bring about flow

This poem has been adapted from Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s book “Flow”.  It’s fab – a really inspirational read – if anyone wants to know more about Optimal Experience

Cloak of Conscience

I am one step ahead of you
One step behind
Adjacent, at a tangent
Intercepting your mind
Above and below you
Within and outside
I am your own conscience

Off To Uni

Today he’s off to London
I feel a little sad
But may this Richard Whittington
Find gold and nothing bad
As on those cobbles nightly
He stumbles home to bed
With lager in his belly and
A thumping pounding head

Yet in the days let him be stretched
And filled up to brim
With nuggets of pure knowledge that
Will make him smart not dim
So that his future pathways will
Be made of all that gleams
So, go now my son and do your best
And live your wildest dreams

Meddling Madam

Meddling madam, miffed and mad
Makes me see red; she’s just so sad
For with so little in her life
She seems intent to cause such strife
And interfere; upset as well
To make our lives a living hell!
Yet does she care does she perceive
The fall out from her wanton greed
The chaos and the disarray
That she leaves in her wake each day
Or is it all for her ego
In which case let her burn and go

If There Was A God (Haiku)

If there was a god
This would be him in glory
Shining light on earth

Jilted Willow Bride

She wails down by the riverside
Weeping pools of emerald tears
That drip into the water’s depths
Portraying loss so dear

For her true love has left her
Departed years ago
Leaving her alone to cry bereft
As her grief overflows

And by the Medway’s winding bank
Where rooted she must stay
She wills him to return to her
Why did he go away?

Yet through the years he’s not come back
And her? She’s drowning in
Her purgatory; sad jilted bride
Bless her and her offspring

Seasons Of Life

The golden days of summer stand aside
Making room for autumn’s copper legacy
Clearing the way for winter’s ebony boughs
And the darkness that will fall upon the Earth

The barren, bleak, harsh cold obscurity
Where frosts will claw at the fallen harvest
Nourishing the deadened yet expectant ground
In readiness for the emerald Spring

And thus too in our own wildernesses
Let dying colours seep and imbue our souls
Milling out of sight in paint pots of anticipation
Until we are ready – once again

Ready to burst forth with radiance
Glorious brightness shining in golden rays
For the seasons of life are ours for the living
In nuggets of renewal; cyclic revival; resplendent

Kitten (Haiku)

Cute bundle of fluff
Ignites the maternal soul
With protective might
