The Purrfect Retreat

They told me I was going to
A hotel just for cats
A vacation is what they said
A place I could relax
A haven for all felines
A retreat to paws awhile
To put my feet up; have a break
And go away in style!

But pffft! What do they know at all?
These humans – what big twits
They put me in this massive cage
And thought that with titbits
They’d buy me – my allegiance
Get me to drool and say
‘This place is really wonderful
What a great holiday!’

They thought I’d be contented with
The food they’d post through hatch
But I was really not impressed
For odouring my patch
Were several other felines
“Some friends for you” they said
“Get real!” I thought and turned my back
And headed into bed

And there I stayed and slept until
My human did return
At last I thought with cunning wit
Now is your time to learn
Just what it’s like! What I’ve been through
In this your cat hotel!
For to my mind it had just been
A prison right from hell!

And so when we returned back home
I put my tail in air
And walked away from them at once
As though they were not there
And did not give in to their bribes
To let them cuddle me
But gave them warning with a spit
And headed up the tree

I sat there for a while and thought
You think you’re really smart
But I’m a cat; a god some say
Good lord where is your heart?
For you can’t lock me up like that
And think that all is fine!
For I have standards and have views
And won’t stand in your line!

For if I had the power I’m owed
I’d send my humans to
That purrfect retreat like they did
And see what they would do!
I put them in a kennel
And lock them right away
And see if they would think the same!
For it’s no holiday!

A reflection on what might have been going on in my cat’s head the last few days but not reflection on the lovely cattery he stayed in!

The Purrfect Retreat

Just A Thought …

Each day I am determined
To write a little ditty
A poem or some prose
That rhymes or … maybe doesn’t
An etching from my soul
My heart or from my mind
That help me understand the world
And fathom out mankind

And from the blue the topics
Just pop into my head
Whether I am feeling great
Or even just half dead
And where they come from is
A mystery for sure
But every day I jot down thoughts
To perceive more and more

So if they touch your soul
Uplift you; make you glad
Then that’s my job accomplished
Though sometimes they’ll be sad
And make you think or ponder
Or maybe question too
Is this the world we live in?
Whatever can I do?

But then that’s not a problem
When we challenge our mind’s mode
For good and bad and ugly
Form this world that’s our abode
So equally I hope it helps
When writing from the heart
To prompt us all to celebrate
The good or play our part!

Behold (Haiku)

Behold the foul mind
Operating with malice
To cause untold pain

Behold the loose tongue
Unleashed and free to damage
Wagging uncontrolled

Behold the true heart
That beats in rhythm and rhyme
Driven by great love

Behold the open arms
Outreached to support and care
Upholding the world

Behold steadfast feet
Walking on the path of peace
Shining light anew

Mumflu

My bones all ache; my head is hot
My mind is in a fog
With snotty nose and poorly throat
But still must walk the dog
For keep on going; will not stop
Relentless some might say
As juggling balls up in the air
Is what we do all day
And bed will just so have to wait
What am I gonna do?
For life don’t cease when I am ill
It’s what they call Mumflu!

Welcome Home

He’s coming home, Hip Hip Hooray
He’ll be here pretty soon
From foreign lands so far away
Arriving after noon

And though we think it will be fab
To have him back in fold
There’s one thing that we know for sure
He’s gonna feel quite cold

For from the tropics where he’s been
To here in England’s climes
The temperature is somewhat less
Though hot not so sublime

And smelly – yes he will be that
So pegs are ready too
As well as throne to sit upon
An indoor modern loo!

For three weeks trekking out of town
Through mud and mountains wild
Will possibly have made him stink
Save make him man from child

But less all that we cannot wait
To see him – oh what joy
With celebrations to the fore
To welcome home our boy!

The Heart-Beat Blues

Woke up this very morning and was feeling rather blue
Woke up this very morning and was feeling rather blue
Cos my pulse was out of sync
And there ain’t much I can do

And

I got those heart beat blues with its rhythm out of touch
I got those heart beat blues with its rhythm out of touch
Cos it beats arrhythmically
I don’t like it very much

It makes me feel all woozy, all faint and mighty odd
It makes me feel all woozy, all faint and mighty odd
And these blues are so tiring
Riding over me roughshod

So

I curl up in ma corner and think the day is done
I curl up in ma corner and think the day is done
But Lord, there’s more to livin’
And I wanna have some fun

For

These blues ain’t gonna beat me – not spoil my life today
For these blues ain’t gonna beat me – not spoil my life today
I’m gonna pick myself up
Get checked out; be on ma way

The Beat

Hey! Get down to the beat
When walking down the street
The beat that strikes out rhythm blues
As heart beat that hits headline news
With constancy repeat

And rock a rate that’s true
But know right what suits you
The boom boom boom along your way
Through arteries and veins each day
That circulate O2

So know your pulse for sure
The knocking at heart’s door
The dub dub dub that you can hear
Or feel pulsating oh so clear
For heart health and much more

To

To hold a child’s small hand
To hear their fast heart beat
To listen to their song and rhyme
To walk their steps petite
To hear their worries and their toils
To understand their mind
To take the time so selflessly
To give; to be so kind
To uplift all their worth
To cherish their esteem
To speak with love; to act the same
To let them hope and dream
To pray for their safe keeping
To keep them from all ill
To save them from a fallen path
To bid them their free will
To accept them as they are
To teach them every day
To lead them to green pastures
To believe in what they say
To honour and protect them
To help them do their part
To see the good and happiness
To hold their hand and heart
