I am Right and You are Wrong!

Do you ever wonder why, in a world that offers so many opportunities to understand from all the sources of information available, that the will to tolerate and understand seem to be at an all time low?

Where are our listening hearts?

Harmony

There’s a bridge that extends
Between you and me
Invisible yet there
Cross chasm and sea
Called respect, open mindedness
Less judgement and blame
That seeks out common pathways
That chooses the game
That pulls together; uplifts
That doesn’t divide
Works hard to discover
That despite different sides
We are of the same coin
Be me head and you tails
And that’s where the wealth is
On a sliding scale
T’ween my opinion and yours
However different they be
For when all’s said and done
Let’s sing in harmony

Break Ups

You marry them and you think
Life’s going to be fine
But that’s not always the true case
As you find out down the line
When they screw you over
Lie and deceive
And then try to pretend
That it would be great if you two could
Remain the best of friends
Yet that is not how it works out
For if you want to stay
A friend with your ex, I suggest
You play fair every day
Be honest, show integrity
In everything you do
Even when you want to split up
Be kind; compassionate too
And think just what you are doing
To the one that you have loved
Put yourself in their shoes for a while
And approach them with kid gloves
Considering how you would feel
If you were in their place
For break ups are quite hard to bear
So tiptoe with much grace
And concede that emotions will
Fly round and round a bit
As hurt subsides and passions cease
To have such a snug fit
And then leave space where it’s needed
Respect your ex and wait
Until they want to speak to you
Until their nerves don’t grate
At just the mention of your name
The smell of aftershave
Or perfume that they recognize
For you’re not there to save
Them from their fate nor control them
Tell them what to do each day
Nor interfere with their lives for
You chose to walk away
And as such you much thus accept
That though you’d like to be
Their friend forever, as you once were
You have to set them free
To live, to learn and love again
To find their own heartbeat
For then in time you may find out
They’ll be prepared to greet
You as a friend and say hello
Maybe even share a brew
But when alls said and all is done
It will be down to you
To handle your relationship
The way that you would choose
How others would also treat you
Then you’ll have nowt to lose!

A ‘Welfie’ World

I dream of a ‘welfie’ world
Where the ‘me’ is replaced with the ‘we’
Where the common currency is love
The common language is respect
Bound in individual responsibility
Uniting each one
And bringing together the world
Connected
Joined
Working as one
In an image celebrating diversity
Yet unified by worldcentric vision
Portrayed in one powerful snapshot
Otherwise known as US

The Dream

He had a dream and I do too
Where blame and judgement cease
And truth, responsibility
Are set to fly; released
Where lives are lived with pure respect
For fellow humankind
And stress from others bearing down
Is gone from every mind
Where joy is seated in the hearts
Of those who walk the earth
With peace and love in harmony
Contentment given birth

And though some might declare this dream
Utopian; not real
It could exist if we all thought
Just how the other feels
Take time to see the other side
Have space to include you
And let the I, the me, the self
Perceive altitude view
Whilst honouring the standards that
We hold; those we esteem
As freedom and autonomy
Present out of the dream

Teens

They said the teens would sometimes be
A trial; a testing time
A time when doors were slammed in face
And moods would rock not rhyme

They said that attitudes would be
Perplexing at the least
That from such sweet and charming child
Would rise pubescent beast

They mentioned that all speech would be
Replaced with teenage grunt
That hormones would then wax less wane
And surge unchecked rampant

They said to batten down the hatch
To put an armour on
Against the throws of teenage might
When thy will not be done!

But therein lies the issue
For in the teenage years
The will becomes a sticky thing
A battle of ideas

As young minds learn to realize
What makes them think and tick
Their values; not those of their folks
No longer ruled by sticks

A time where pure autonomy
Becomes the thing that they
Harbinger after and crave for
Save each and every day

A time when they take up the wheel
To find a pathway clear
Where wise parents help read the map
But let their teen then steer

Where cars still have dual brake systems
Yet just one set of gears
And plans and dreams stretch out ahead
Reigns loosened year on year

So when they say the teens will be
A trial; a testing time
Take heart for it is not always
And can be just sublime!

Virtues

With all the money in the world
Somethings are not for sale
Good manners, morals and respect
Are free – no cash entailed!

Then character and common sense
Sit past the bankers door
Lest trust, patience, integrity
No charge for rich or poor

And then there’s love with no set price
Not to be bought or sold
For all these things you cannot buy
Just learn, uplift, behold!

Disability

When you have a disability
And a ‘hidden’ one at that
It’s not so much what you can’t do
That leaves you feeling flat
But the attitudes of others who
Just twist and turn the knife
With jibes and nasty comments that
Can ail and add more strife

The lack of understanding and
The fear to comprehend
The void of pure compassion or
Aversion to befriend
The cowering from all contact lest
The blame – indignity
The failure to see past the mask
Of disability

But those who stand out from the crowd
Who smile and take the time
To say hello or shake a hand
Tap out a different rhyme
That uplifts and renews all faith
In pure humanity
For smallest feats make largest steps
And mean the most you see!

Tolerate

Think!  Patience is a virtue
Open wider your mind’s eye
Live and walk in other’s shoes
Enrich – diversify
Respect the ways of others
And be there to give support
Take care of all upon this Earth
Enjoy!  No second thought.

No Means No!

No means No
It doesn’t mean ‘maybe’
Or ‘go on – let’s try’
It doesn’t have a ‘yeah but’
Or an ‘if’ or even ‘why’
It doesn’t mean ‘in a minute’
Isn’t negotiable; up for dispute
And it certainly just doesn’t mean
‘Who cares! Do I give a hoot?’
It means precisely what it says
A clear decisive ‘No’
A statement that needs nothing else
For No means strictly No!
