Monster Snores! (A Haiku)

Noises in the Night

Through the crisp night air
A dog barks incessantly
Yapping at the heels of a shadow
As ethereal spirits dance amongst the branches
And whispers rustle in the leaves
In the distance an owl screeches
And cats yowl in the feint light of a distant moon
Whilst the world sleeps
Or at least tries to!

Bedtime

Is it too early to go
To bed before sundown
Without saluting lunar moon
Who might then wear a frown
If ignored and not welcomed in
As eye lids start to drop
Is it too early? Is it? Is it?
Or can I go and flop?

Sweet Dreams (Haiku)

A nighttime haiku
To wish each a good night and
Sweet dreams ’til morning

Nightfall

The embers of the day burn red
As I turn in to rest my head
And drift off to the land of dreams
Where all is perfect so it seems

Where skies wash blue and clouds appear
As cotton buds save any tears
And grass rolls fore in emerald green
With brooks all bubbling diamond streams

Whilst birds nest down; no longer fly
And owl hoots out her lullaby
As distant worries fade away
And into slumber goes the day

Sleepover

From hence forth let it be decreed
Sleepovers don’t exist!
A term that implies a few z’s
Is more a slumber myth.

For anyone with teens will know
That when they meet to sleep-
Over is more so an excuse
To party long and deep

Deep to the early hours and more
Til sun rise the next day
When they’ll return to their own homes
Where then they’ll hit the hay

And so the word’s redundant
Therefore may I suggest
That sleepovers drop the word sleep
As there’s no sleep or rest!

Keeping The Peace

Peel in bells of sleepiness
The bobby who is beat
As cop arresting drowsy eyes
Patrols the dreamy streets
Policing far flung galaxies
To plod on milky way
With helmet on and truncheon tight
Keeping the peace til day

Fatigue

Tiredness, exhaustion, pure fatigue
Call it what you may
Consuming waking moments
Where night spins through the day

Where lids are weighted heavy
And matchsticks fail to prop
Those eyes open save sound of sleep
With dreams and rest full stop

Dreams

Dreams past reality
Yonder the given
Deeper than slumber
Outside yet within
Further; farther; untouchable
And yet almost tangible in their existence

Dreams past reality
Unconsious existence
Being unfathomable
Surreal and bizarre
Images, emotions, sensations
And yet accommodating desire’s ether

Dreams past reality
Beyond consciousness
Intrinsic phenomena
Conscious insights
Manifesting parallel illusions
And yet expressing a heart’s core content
