The Snow Bride

Harbinger of Winter (A Haiku)

Winter’s Kiss

Winter arrived
Littering the landscape
In a delicate dusting of desiccated coconut
That smooched innocently with nature
A lacklustre covering of snow
Yet still beautiful
Powdering the world in sifted icing
As she kissed the Earth
In a spectacle to behold

The Snow Bride

Under the light of frosty moon
A bride in whitened gown
Spread forth her train; her robes so pure
In silence cross the town

Enveloping the landscape
In a wake of crystal hue
In hushed progression sought her groom
Snowed blanket left on view

By stealth she crept from door to door
Cross every leafy lane
Spread out across each grassy lawn
Searching her love in vain

On branches; steps; on pavements too
She left a trail so white
The pathway of this bride seeking
Her lover out that night

But in the morn when sun awoke
She melted right away
Leaving her tears in pools of ice
Jilted in light of day

And frosted to each blade of grass
Her spirit set apart
The remnants of her bridal train
And snow dropped broken heart

Snow Flakes

With stealth and efficaciousness
Enveloping the world in a silent snowy blanket
The translucent flakes embellish the facade of the Earth
Displaying the beauty of crystallized magnificence
That at daybreak blends into a winter wonderland.
Iced fingers extend from the roof tops
And frosted leaves line the branches of the glacial trees.
Visions avail of glistening lakes and hiemal fields and vales,
And the landscape transforms into one of arctic radiance and polar splendour.

Dear Mr Weather Man

Dear Mr Weather Man I just meant to say
That your endearing smile has brightened my day.
Despite your forecast of storms and threats of more rain
And the fact that the summer has passed us in vain,
Your bright voice, cheery face, and your fun, wacky ties
May one day encourage a meteorological temperature rise!

And dear Mr Weather Man I’d just like to add
That although you are jolly this weather is bad!
So with due haste I must ask you, if only I may,
Why don’t you do me a favour and blow the rain clouds away,
And rid us of the autumn and the winter weather and grot
And press a magic button for a sunny climate that is warm and is hot?!

Jack Frost

Jack Frost has hit the headlines
In his one and only way
With icicles for fingers
Cooling dew to snow per se
With his breadth of frosty air
And his eyes so bitter cold
He’s been dancing round the yard
With an attitude that’s bold
In his wake he’s left a chill
So icy to freeze us out
So watch out and wrap up warm
As Jack Frost is all about

Weather Worry

We really could do without weather
For whatever the weather is
The Brits seem to obsess and to worry
And get themselves in a terrible tizz!

When it snows the roads grind to a standstill
When it rains it’s so terribly wet
When the sunshines we fear about burning
About our health and our crops do we fret

With thunder and lightning we vex further
When gales blow we fear we’ll get hit
But whatever the weather there’s one thing for sure
We’ll always complain about it!!!
