Spring

A little bit of sun can really lift the spirits. And to celebrate her appearance today, here’s a Spring tanka. Tanka is a style of poetry similar to Haiku but based over 5 lines with syllable counts of 5,7,5,7,7. Why not have a go at writing one and share it with me.

Spring Bride

Cherry blossom heralding
Spring is on her way
With garlands of flowers decking the boughs
In Nature’s own display
With such delicate petals
Amassing a splendid sight
The bride to summer’s beckoning
In gown of pink and white

Felony

Someone stole an hour last night
Yet no one has declared
Just who it was or what they did
With sixty minutes spare

And with the crime scene evident
Inspectors have arrived
To check out all the evidence
And see which hours survived

They’ll see which one went missing
Which one paid the high price
For no-ones sure exactly which
Hour lost out to the heist

And blue and white tape’s everywhere
Wrapped all around the clock
Yet somehow, somewhere there’s a ruse
That midnight’s in the dock

For murdering the first hour
Conspiring with hour two
But where 1 am has been hid
Is strange cos there’s no clue

So if you’ve information
Have seen or even heard
Anything please speak to the police
As it is quite absurd!

For not only has an hour gone
The culprit’s still at large
Who may strike again next Springtime
If no-one brings a charge

Seeds of Spring

Seeds dispersing through the air
On springtime gentle breeze
In warmer winds as birds return
With gracefulness and ease

As life bursts forth upon the earth
With a pure green verdancy
To see buds spout into full bloom
And nests line every tree

Lambs frolicking in open fields
Bluebells in seas of blue
The world reviving life again
To shine forth so anew

The Bosky Wood

It won’t be long til you can go
Down in the bosky wood
To see a new year sprout again
With leaves in bud; hear birds’ refrain
Imbue the spring air good

Where lambs will jump up through the air
And Daffs blow on the breeze
Where life will rise up from the ground
To herald in the season sound
From hibernation’s freeze

And there above the canopy
The sun will start to climb
Up in the sky with greater strength
With warmth kept no more at arm’s length
By hailing in springtime
