Youthful Oaks

Silver greys temple bound
Folded contours to be found
Crow’s feet resting by each eye
Dappled skin from age spots spied
Hard of hearing, aches and pains
Slowing down to take the strains
Midriff spread and puffy paws
Signs of ageing evermore

But past the tide of ageing signs
Wisdom’s wealth lays realigned
Knowledge, skill, experience
Moulded from resilience
And memories that pave the way
From yesteryear to present day
So let us all uphold these folks
Who bring today; great youthful oaks!

Trees

Within your branches, in your leaves
Unlocking with your key
The saviour of environment
Sustainability
The means to feed, to energize
To reverse all that’s bad
The degradation of the world
The world we have once had

A canopy that filters out
Effects of climate change
Preserving soil from eroding
In storms that rearrange
The homeostasis of the earth
A planet in distress
To save the world from many threats
To help; imprint; impress

For trees, just grown and planted to
Protect, preserve, prepare
The way forward to hope past this
With trees and long term care
To give the planet lungs again
Produce clean air so true
To turn back from the plagues of man
With trees – the world renew

The Sagacious Oak

You look and see a dying oak
A tree that’s stood in time
A tree now covered in green mould
With branches bared from slime

You see the broken sticks that fall
On floor around my trunk
The leaves that do not come in spring
My frame so stark – defunct

And yet I’d tell a different tale
As I have stood my ground
The days I’ve seen whilst standing here
The treasures I have found

I’d tell of years gone by and how
They’ve shaped our history
The acorns that I then produced
What they went on to be

I’d say of those who’ve climbed by boughs
You’ve swung right off my arm
Who’ve hidden in my mighty oak
To save them from all harm

I’d relay the winters that I’ve seen
In life and lives so real
I’d tell you how they shaped our earth
And tell you what I feel

So whilst you see an old, oak tree
Dilapidated; in decay
I still have wisdom in my bones
To inform you today

For lose the past and memories
The present can’t exist
And still the future won’t then shine
Save Oak’s sagacious mist

The Wisdom of Kindness

If you want to grow some wisdom
There’s a seed in you and me
That develops through the seasons
Much like the old oak tree
Sagacious in its branches yet
Starting so very small
A seed that doesn’t shout and rant
But reaches out to all
Not cynical; not assuming
The buds of wiser ways
That blooms pure and simple kindness
For more insightful ways

For kindness is the birthplace that
Manoeuvres out of care
That removes all other blinkers
For truer truth out there
That consciously attunes and sees
The other’s points and views
With comfort and encouragement
For wisdom to infuse
Where power becomes more balanced to
Uplift humanity
In the spotlight of wisdom’s nest
Right in the old oak tree

The Sum of Age

For what is age if nothing more
Than a count of years gone by
A measure of the days once lived
Just numbers in the sky!

For there appears another view
That might be the real deal
For one thing is for certain that
You’re just the age you feel

For older or still wiser and
Improving every day
Age is the wine or fruit ripening
The clock unwound per se

For what is age if nothing more
Than a count of years gone by
A sum of numbers clocking up
As seen in the mind’s eye!

The Christmas Tree Fairy

*
They
called her
nice and early
To come and do her
best.  To come when all
the children slept with magic and
the rest.
They begged her
come and decorate, to
light up every tree.  To hang
on decorations – those baubles glittery.
They gave her gorgeous ornaments and tinsel by
the
reams and added in some chocolates to hang with string
from seams.  They begged her come quite quickly
to come with
festal cheer. To
come at once to do her
bit, at this special time of year.
They called her the Christmas Fairy.  The
one whom came with grace.  To deck the halls with
holly, and ivy o’er all the place.  To come and add her Christmas
charm, as festive as could be – and then the Christmas Fairy sat herself
on top of
this special
