If the truth sets us free
Then why do some lie
Twist the facts and contort them
To beggar belief and defy
Freedom and integrity,
Honour and trust
For the truth’s none negotiable
And is simply a must
So don’t lie, use deceit
Drive the truth under ground
Deflect honesty’s spotlight
For in time you’ll be found
Out and your lies
Will become quite renown
As your fibs, fraud and falsehoods
Will hunt you right down
Make every day count
Let there be no regret
Endeavour a purpose
And never forget
That the clock ticks through life
It never will stop
Til your last breath is taken
And your legacy drops
Into the sea of the past
To be judged good or bad
Whether a life made a difference
Or was wasted – so sad
But let there be more
That each moment bring joy
Inspiration and wonder
like a child with new toy
To question; to challenge
To relax; to imbue
Every day; every minute;
Every second hold true
The mouth reflects the heart’s content
A mirror on the soul
The verbal flow of what’s within
Reciting rote recall
A vision of what lies beneath
The mask that each one wears
Betraying internal substance
So watch out and beware
Of those who smile yet utter forth
Profanities and hate
For where there is dis-synchrony
Such words are venom’s trait
Releasing from deep down inside
A vapour stream from hell
In swirls and pools of discontent
That does not bode so well
So only counter words that match
Content that’s good and true
And aim to honour real concord
In all you say and do
Do you ever stop and wonder
If those things you think you know
Are predisposed to assumption
Conditioned thoughts that flow
Out of a line of processes
That construct along the way
Foundations that may turn out to be
So incorrect one day
For if that was the case then
All that we had leant would
Not be the way we thought it was
Nor stand the way it stood
And suddenly our world would be
Turned Inside out for sure
And upside down; somewhat confused
As facts became so flawed
For the base of all the theories
Our hypotheses and such
Would end up being nonsense
And not add up to much
And postulation, conjecture
Would’ve been false all along
But if that was the case would we
Admit that we were wrong?
Would we have an open mind set?
Would we let creative thought
Be flexible to turn things round
And make them as they ought
To have been in the first place
Correct those failed ideas
Or would we continue the pretence
Let it run for year on year
For insights come but once a while
And often are rebuffed
By those who think that they know best
Say “Now that is quite enough!”
“Don’t question what we know for sure
Don’t disrespect those who
Know all there is to know for they
Know so much more than you”
And with these grand dismissals
The font of knowledge grows
From what has gone before based on
What everyone else knows
Lest daring to audaciously
Question the rank and file
With queries that may then reveal
They were wrong all the while
So ….
Do you ever stop and wonder
If those things you think you know
Are predisposed to assumption
Conditioned thoughts that flow
Out of a line of processes
That construct along the way
Foundations that may turn out to be
So incorrect one day
Is it a buzz word that flies about
Much like a wasp with meaningless intent
Flittering on the brink of twisted fate
Where outcome surpasses means
And excuses rectitude
Or more so a way of life
Subscribing to righteousness
Adhering to ethics
Upholding morality
Navigating goodness
For that is my kind of integrity
Bottled candour defining honesty
Facing the truth head on
With accountability and honour
Amidst a world of corruption
And yet it is the small still voice
The whisper deep within
That is forever our guiding compass
The subtle beat that resonates in our heart
Flooding the senses with acuity
Submerging the soul in the waters of conviction
That navigates the harsh winds of chaos
And despite all the seeking
All enquiry
It is in quiet solitude that we find
That we discover who we are
Let the scales of justice
Less so fall on the side of blame and judgement
But more so lean towards truth and responsibility
Enlisting a more free and enlightened world
