Rain

Once upon a long lost time
I used to puddle jump
With macintosh and rubber boots
Into the shallow pools
And splatter droplets, laugh and yelp
With giggles and with glee
As water swelled and burst its skin
To soak both you and me

I’d run and leap and land into
The rain-filled basins that
Amalgamated post the storm
And splish and splosh and splash
And fun was had, excitement seen
As small child ran into
The puddles on the pavements edge
From clouds and mist and dew

Yet now when torrents tumble down
From darkened skies above
And water gushes down the street
And gullies overflow
As pools of water fill to brim
From sharpened watery spears
That lash from heavens open wide
I try to hide my tears

And run against this weather’s tide
The damp and misery
Fighting against the drizzle and
The wetness that abounds
A battle twixt the will to stay
Inside the warm and dry
Less memories from childhood days
When rains fell from the sky

A Lost Summer’s Dream

They said it was summer
No word of a lie
As the heavens opened up
And rain fell from the sky
In torrents; in downpours
Day after day
Fabulous for ducks
Or if Noah came to stay
But in truth it was horrid
Miserable and soggy
As hour after hour
It drizzled constantly
With no let-up; no blue skies
No bright clear sunshine
Whilst the forecasters promised
It would be dry and be fine
But their words washed away
Down the street in a stream
Of flood water drowning
A lost summer’s dream

April Showers

Snow , hail, wind, rain
April showers of every vein
Running through these bizarre weeks
From March to May as weather tweaks
It’s shape for summer; here by June
Before next winter comes too soon!

What’s The Weather Doing?

Do you remember a time
Do you recall it all
When we’d look out the window
Or open the door
To ask ‘if the weather
Was cold or was hot
Or frosty, wet, windy”
Do you recollect that or not?

Yet now in a morning
From our beds every day
Under duvet ensconced
Not going out of your way
We tap into metcheck
Or an app of our choice
Save asking the question
Or using our voice

But oh what a surprise
We’d get if when we
Eventually rose to
Open curtains fully
To find the weather had vanished
Just got up and gone
With a note that read simply
Farewell and so long

As though it’d got in a huff
Blown itself right away
Saying muster your computers
To be the weather today
And choose what you want
Select sun if you please
For I’m weather and bored
And have gone to Berlize

I’ve got up and left you
Thought you’d manage just fine
With a climate you could program
In your own perfect time
For I’m done with the way
You’ve treated me recently
Manipulating my outcomes
Raising the levels of sea

And I’ve had it with warming
This planet of yours
At the expense of all else
From behind your closed doors
So as said I’ve departed
Will you miss me or not?
Will you even notice
If it gets real real hot?

Will you work out my value
Before it’s too late
When other species have died off
In this world you create
That is all about you
And not about us
As Civilisation advances
But the rest turns to dust.

So this is weather signing off
A swan song that lulls
In the depth of despair
As the climate is culled
Yet still we’ll tap into our phones
Asking by the way
“What is weather doing
Will it be sunny today”

After The Storm

Rain drops evaporate on distant horizon
Blue skies dispel darker clouds
And the smell of a wet earth percolates olfactory senses
With a dampness beneath the rainbowed arch
As moss flourishes, drips drop
The torrents turn to a trickle
And a new world emerges from the storm

Bank Holiday

And true to form, Bank Holiday
Has come round once again
With torrents of the wet stuff that
We call torrential rain

For right on time, almost on cue
The downpour has arrived
As heavens open up and drop
Their payload from the skies

But that’s the way it always is
A soggy damp affair
So make the most and dance it in
Less complain ‘It’s not fair’

Sunrise (Haiku)

Red flecked morning sky
Gives rise to another day
Crying ruby tears

Weather

They said it would be scorching
But there again they too
Said there’d be snow in April
And frost in June – it’s true

They said there would be rain storms
When the sun came out to shine
But when they forecast warm weather
A storm raged down the line

So what is this meteorology
We follow with intent
For whatever weather they predict
It’s not the weather sent

Springtime

Spring is in the air
The grass now needs a mow
The borders need a-planting and
The beds required a hoe

The fences must be painted
The hedges need a trim
So chances of relaxing now
Are looking rather slim

And suddenly car washing
Becomes the thing to do
Though heed the call of a Pimms cup
That’s waiting there for you

For when the jobs are dusted
All finished up and done
It is the time to put feet up
And enjoy the springtime fun!

The Snow Bride

Under the light of frosty moon
A bride in whitened gown
Spread forth her train; her robes so pure
In silence cross the town

Enveloping the landscape
In a wake of crystal hue
In hushed progression sought her groom
Snowed blanket left on view

By stealth she crept from door to door
Cross every leafy lane
Spread out across each grassy lawn
Searching her love in vain

On branches; steps; on pavements too
She left a trail so white
The pathway of this bride seeking
Her lover out that night

But in the morn when sun awoke
She melted right away
Leaving her tears in pools of ice
Jilted in light of day

And frosted to each blade of grass
Her spirit set apart
The remnants of her bridal train
And snow dropped broken heart
