The Young

Hark! Hear the song of youth
The zest of tender years
Enthusiasm’s verdant burst
Cross innocent frontiers

The zeal for pastures new
Fresh lust for life each day
The zing in step and fettle
Their zany springtime way

And hear their laughter on the wind
Their youthful chatter sung
Their appetite; vivacity
The anthems of the young

Back to School!

Back to school! Oh great!  I think not!
To catch the bugs and nits
Side step the playground bullies midst
Those kids with pus filled zits
To duck the banter wagon
Avoiding drugs and drink
To hide away in lavatories
Whilst snatching forty winks
To tolerate the teachers
Save those who froth and foam
And watch the classroom wall clock til
It’s time to come back home!

Back to school! Oh great! I think not!
Homework issued every day
Arithmetic and reading books
A bore!  I want to play
With bans on almost everything
No gadgets or iphones
And games that might just make it fun
Save breaking any bones
With all the rules so rigid and
Consequences pretty hard
Back to school! Oh great! I think not!
When are hols next on the cards?

The Sum of Age

For what is age if nothing more
Than a count of years gone by
A measure of the days once lived
Just numbers in the sky!

For there appears another view
That might be the real deal
For one thing is for certain that
You’re just the age you feel

For older or still wiser and
Improving every day
Age is the wine or fruit ripening
The clock unwound per se

For what is age if nothing more
Than a count of years gone by
A sum of numbers clocking up
As seen in the mind’s eye!

The Bully

There was no meaning in his soul
And in his heart a searing hole
And his eyes a vacancy
In his spirit lost transparency
A fragile state that cried with hurt
Yet masked with words to disconcert
And deeds that punished for his pain
Lashing out in anger to kill and maim
Where consequence concerned him not
His victim’s lives were left in knots
Yet underneath he still cried out
To want the love he had forgot
To extend to those he had destroyed
With the bullying he had employed
